I’ve entered a lot of contests and submitted to a lot of workshops and residencies. But this one may be the best ever.
The winners get to spend 10 days at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs working. Just working. On a creative piece of their choosing. Here’s the Ace, by the pool, at night:
The residency is sponsored by TinyLetter, a simplified version of MailChimp, an email service I already use.
Good luck to me and everyone who entered. See you there. If I’m lucky.

I’m co-running another workshop with Kevin Kautzman about plays and the writing of plays on Saturday, May 10, in Austin, Texas. We’ve teamed up with ScriptWorks to present “Write On: A Playwriting Workshop” at the MACC Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
ScriptWorks is a very cool Austin group that exists to “support dramatic writers” — an excellent mission statement. The MACC (also known as the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center) is at 600 River St., Austin, TX 78701. We’ll talk a little, write a little, then talk about what we’ve written. Should be fun. Might even be informative. Cost is $15 for ScriptWorks members & students, $25 for the rest of youse.
Why Austin, you ask. Kevin returns to the city where he spent three years as a Michener Fellow at UT to dramaturg a friend’s play and to hear a reading of his own play, VASILISA MOST LOVELY. I, meanwhile, have just moved from New York City to Austin. And when I say just, I mean this week. So I’m thrilled to get to meet local dramatists and theater makers even before I’ve sampled my first brisket.
We have room for a few more, so jump in. For more scoop + reservations, write to firstname.lastname@example.org.
